Sharp Edge, a good scrambling aréte but not for the delicates.
Blencathra is also known as Saddleback because of its distinctive shape.
It is thanks to the great Mr Alfred Wainwright that we now call this mountain north of Keswick in the Lakeland Northern Fells by its old northern cumbric name Blencathra meaning the summit of ‘the seat-like mountain’.
One of the most northerly hills in the Lakes. There are six separate fell tops, the highest is the Hallsfell Top at 868 m (2,848 ft).
Sharp Edge lies between Tarn Crag and Foule Crag on Blencathra, previously known as razor edge is aptly named for those not brave enough to use their legs preferring a bottom shuffle - ouch!
